A year ago, we booked the Imfolozi Wilderness Trail and it was with much anticipation that we met our guide, Jabulani at Hluhuwe National Park. After signing all the Indemnity Forms, we set off on foot, crossing rivers, up and down mountains, to our camp site in the wilderness for the next 4 nights. The camp site was very basic, with Sipho the resident cook welcoming us with a freshly baked bread.
We slept in tents, the shower consisted of a galvanised bucket hoisted up a tree and the spade, toilet paper and matches completed our ablution facilities.
Our walk started every morning after breakfast. Jabulani leading the way, with us following in single file with Bheki watching our backs. What an adrenaline rush to walk in the wild, between elephant and rhino with two well trained armed guides. It was amazing how well they were tuned to the sound and movement of the bush. This enabled us to get very close to the animals on our walk.
We spent the evenings around the camp fire where Jabulani and Bheki kept us entertained.
To soon the hike came to an end and we all returned home, feeling enriched by the wonderful experience of a true wilderness safari.
