I married Magda in 1989 whilst living in Amanzimtoti on the Kwa-Zulu Natal south coast. We moved to East London in 1991 and in September 2000 took a transfer to Mthatha in the former Transkei where I manage Spargs Wholesale, a food retailer.

While traveling the garden route to Cape Town in 1998, Magda and I were introduced to the hobby of birding. This added a whole new dimension to my photography.

Magda also started showing an interest in photography and bought her first Camcorder, a Canon XM2. We now spend most of our free time birding and photographing nature.
